Pilot Rock is, well, rocky. It's also one of the best rides in all of Western NC. From switchbacks to rock gardens (go figure), it's one of the longer descents around Pisgah and there are a ton of all-time trails you can link it up with. Our personal favorite is Pilot to Bennett. This trail also offers some of the best views in NC. Needless to say you won't regret making the trip for this ride.
